- 1 small white onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz.) can Italian plum tomatoes, with juices

- 3/4 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
- 1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
